Work Sample: Language Drawings
Lately I've started a practice I call "language drawing." The "drawings" are made by typing words on sheets and rolls with a manual typewriter according to an evolving set of principles including sound, shape, semantics, syntax, repetition, punning, play, translation, and association. Sometimes I type in binary.
I call them drawings because for me they evoke the free space I imagine a traditional drawing practice might inhabit - the space to follow different kinds of impulses, to experiment and play, to return to simple materials in a daily way without particular regard to outcome.
The language drawing practice is something that also continues in public space in the form of a twitter feed: http://twitter.com/languagedrawing
